Atlanta Falcons Players Visit School, Support After-School Programs | Community Spirit

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- The Atlanta After-School All-Stars (ASAS) are proud to host the Atlanta Falcons' John Abraham, Kroy Biermann and Erik Coleman for a site visit with middle school children at Sandy Springs Middle School (8750 Colonel Drive NE, Sandy Springs, 30350) on Tuesday, Nov. 2 from 3:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The three players will tour ASAS programs, including Cooking, Motion/Engineering and Martial Arts. The tour will be followed by a Q&A session between the athletes and the students.

During the Q&A, the Falcons will share and relate their experiences and paths to success with the attendees, as well as speak to the power and importance of after-school programming for at-risk youth.

The event comes as part of the partnership between the athletes and ASAS's Touchdown vs. Shutdown program. Touchdown vs. Shutdown consists of 13 NFL players across the country who have pledged to raise funds for ASAS programs nationwide. Abraham, Biermann and Coleman have generously agreed to donate to the charity -- Abraham and Biermann for each sack they record, and Coleman on a per-tackle basis -- throughout the 2010-2011 NFL season.

The players' donations will help ASAS provide additional after-school programming to youth in the Atlanta area. The programs are designed to improve the participants' lives by incorporating academic support, enrichment, and health and physical fitness activities into their daily routine while keeping them safe during after-school hours.

"I'm very excited to get to spend some time with the kids that the Touchdown vs. Shutdown program supports in Atlanta," Biermann said. "It's very important to me to do my best to make an impact on their lives."

Founded by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1992, ASAS is a national provider of year-round, school-based, comprehensive after-school programs that equip children with the skills and experiences needed to become productive members of the 21st century workforce.
