Watershed Alliance of Sandy Springs announces photo contest award ceremony

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- Watershed Alliance of Sandy Springs will announce the winners of its first Stream Photo Contest and present their prizes on Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Morgan Falls Overlook Park Pavilion starting at 4 p.m.

Winning entries will be featured in a publication of WASS photo calendars and note cards, available for purchase at the awards ceremony, the 2015 Sandy Springs Festival, and throughout the year. It is the hope of WASS that the calendar will help raise awareness of this valuable but fragile resource residents have in their backyards.

Earlier this year, a small group within Leadership Sandy Springs’ Class of 2015 partnered with WASS on their community volunteer projects, to support the organization's outreach efforts. Jack Misiura, Ed Steele, Cheryl Lietz, Sean O’Toole, and Anne Boatwright spent time researching the organization and collaborated with WASS to create a photo contest to involve the community. The creative and artistic photos feature pictures from the streams in Sandy Springs’ six watersheds that weave their way through Sandy Springs.

Funds raised from the sale of the calendars and note cards will support WASS’ many community projects.

The public and media are invited to attend and congratulate the winners and learn the stories behind these serene and fun photos.
