FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Fulton County’s Fire Rescue Department will be holding several events throughout the community in observance of Fire Prevention Week, October 5-11. This year’s theme is “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month!”

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- A Pulitzer Prize-winning author, record-breaking polar explorer, two innovative non-profit activists, and an entrepreneur and visionary for the dyslexic community will all come together Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Atlanta History Center for the 2014 HI Speaker Series. “Small Stories, Big Ideas,” is open to the public.

Pulitzer Prize-winner Edward Humes, critically acclaimed author of "Garbology: Our Dirty Love Affair with Trash," will lead off the evening. In "Garbology," Humes has written a kind of trash travelogue revealing how the government conceals our trashy ways and how the consumer economy actually encourages our costly love affair with waste.

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- Fulton County has added an additional public meeting in conjunction with Johns Creek to allow more public input into the process of planning and preparing its 5-year Consolidated Planning Document to determine the needs of the community in developing viable urban communities.  The plan provides decent housing, a suitable living environment and expanded economic opportunities principally for low and moderate- income persons.

The public meeting will be held Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Community Room of the Shakerag Fire Station located at 10925 Rogers Circle, Johns Creek.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- On Sept. 23, Americans will celebrate National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) with a massive 50-state effort to register voters before Election Day this November. Fulton County Registration and Elections encourages residents to join others across the nation who will be registering to vote.

The deadline for registering to vote in the Nov. 4 General Election is Monday, Oct. 6. Online voter registration is available, which allows new voters to complete the entire process online at www.fultonelections.com. In Fulton County, residents can register to vote online, at their city hall, the Georgia Department of Driver Services, any Atlanta Fulton County Library Branch, at one of the three registration and elections offices or by mail.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Voter Education is an essential non-partisan comprehensive approach to providing the citizens of Fulton County with vital information and data to enhance the voter experience.

The Department of Registration and Elections regularly partners with civic, business and religious organizations to conduct voter registration drives. Groups interested in scheduling a drive can contact the Department of Registration and Elections by phone 404-612-7020 or by fax 404-730-7024.

Movies By Moonlight presents Despicable Me 2

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- Movies By Moonlight, the second movie event in a series of three and presented by nonprofit organization Leadership Sandy Springs, begins Friday, Sept. 5 with Despicable Me 2.

Like a free block party and drive-in all rolled in to one, it's a chance for atendees to get to know their community. The kick-off movie Frozen was a wild success and event organizers promise to deliver the same amount of fun on Friday.
