Georgia child abuse victims remembered by Holy Innocents’

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- More than 500 children who died in Georgia in 2014 from abuse, neglect, and preventable accidents will be remembered Feb. 28-March 1 during a prayer vigil and service in their memory at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church. 

The vigil, sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta’s Commission on Human Trafficking, begins at sundown on Saturday, Feb. 28, and continues throughout the night. A service will then take place Mar. 1 at 4 p.m. Donations and offerings received during the service will be designated to end violence and trafficking.

Fulton County to offers lactation and nutrition education classes

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- The journey to motherhood is different for every woman. Usually, the first decision she will make as a mom will be how to feed her child.

Fulton County Cooperative Extension, in partnership with WellCare, will sponsor lactation and nutrition education classes to provide facts about breastfeeding and to give practical tips on how to make breastfeeding work while getting the support every mother needs. Pre-registration is required.

The classes will take place at 10 a.m. in the Cooperative Extension office which is located on the first floor of the Central Atlanta Library, One Margaret Mitchell Square, Suite 109, Atlanta. Classes will be held:

* Thursday, May 14
* Thursday, October 15

Volunteer for a Better Sandy Springs Day is back

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- For the 13th year, Volunteer for a Better Sandy Springs Day (VBSS), returns on Saturday, Apr. 25 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to provide a community-wide service day to enhance organizations throughout the city, sponsored by Leadership Sandy Springs.

Through hundreds of volunteer service hours, committed and passionate citizens participate in a program of giving back. The program has grown over the years as more sponsors and volunteers have stepped up to provide funding, materials, and labor to make improvements to local nonprofit organizations, government establishments and public schools.

Valued at over $425,000 in upgrades to our community, VBSS Day has become an essential and reliable service that continues to benefit and support Sandy Springs.

Chipotle to hold statewide hiring event

ATLANTA -- Chipotle Mexican Grill is looking for new team members to work at all of its Georgia locations.

Tuesday, Feb. 17 is Open Interview Day at Chipotle, where every restaurant will interview candidates for full- and part-time positions. Those who are interested are asked to fill out applications at jobs.chipotle.com, then visit their local stores for in-person sessions with a manager.

Interviews will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Amanda Klein, Chipotle's lead recruiting strategist for the Southeast, said the fast-casual chain offers competitive pay and benefits, free meals and uniforms, paid breaks and plenty of advancement opportunities for its employees.

(WXIA) -- Registration for the 2015 AJC Peachtree Road Race opens Sunday, Mar. 15 (Sunday, Mar. 1 for Atlanta Track Club members).

Most runners will undoubtedly want to be placed in the highest possible time group. The best way to do this is to enter a finish time from a USATF-certified race (5K, 8K, 10K, 15K, 10-miler or half marathon).

A number of official Peachtree qualifiers will be held in the coming weeks. Here are a few of them:

Chick-fil-A to host Daddy-Daughter Date Night

(WXIA) -- Chick-fil-A will bring back its popular Daddy-Daughter Date Night this weekend.

The fifth annual event will be Saturday, Feb. 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at participating restaurants.

Daddy-Daughter Date Night encourages fathers and their little girls to spend time together. Every "couple" will receive take-home booklets featuring conversation starters and ideas for future outings.

Attendees will also be treated to tableside service, limousine and trolley rides, and other surprises.

Daddy-Daughter Date Night is free, except for the cost of food. Seating is available every hour; fathers and daughters are encouraged to call their local Chick-fil-A locations in advance to reserve a time.

Kageyama is interested in Sandy Springs’ story and recognizes the city’s potential for becoming an even more liveable, loveable place to live and work.
