ATLANTA -- Apparently, the new mode of cutting down on traffic congestion being used by the Department of Transportation looks to be a success.

After the first day of allowing commuters to utilize the southbound GA 400 emergency shoulder lane for regular traffic, DOT officials are pleased with the results. Officials surmise that they'll need to pay attention to the Northridge Road exit due to extra congestion, in that area.
However, during the Tuesday morning commute the DOT will use electronic message boards to make sure everyone is clear of the flow of traffic.
"Motorists are definitely adapting to it -- a lot of people were anxious to use it, according to Jill Goldberg, spokeswomen for the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The lane is only available from 6:30 until 9:30 a.m. for southbound traffic.
