Armed robbery ends with police chase, 2 arrests

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- Two College Park teens were arrested after a police chase on Interstate 285 Friday morning.

Sandy Springs Police said it began at around 11 a.m. with an armed robbery at the Park Terrace Apartments in the 300 block of Carpenter Drive. Two maintenance workers told investigators their wallets, cash and cell phones were stolen by the suspects, later identified as 18-year-old Antwon Deshawn Earls and 17-year-old Eric Justin Patterson.

After robbing the workers, Earls and Patterson jumped into a white Mazda and drove away. A Sandy Springs Police officer spotted the car on Roswell Road and tried to initiate a traffic stop. The Mazda sped away onto I-285 west, and the officer began a chase.

Police said the chase ended when the suspects' car crashed at I-285 and I-20. Both teens jumped out of the car. One was caught right away, while the other was found in a nearby neighborhood. Investigators recovered two handguns in the suspects' car.

Earls and Patterson were charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and fleeing to elude. They were taken to the Fulton County Jail after their arrests.

Atlanta Police and the Georgia State Patrol helped Sandy Springs Police chase and catch the suspects.
