Riverside Farmers Market opens June 1

The Riverside Farmers Market will open for its fourth season on Saturday, June 1, 2013. The popular market is operated by Fulton County Cooperative Extension.

The market will return to the same location, in the parking lot of Roswell City Hall located at 38 Hill Street. Hours are Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon through September.  The market is open rain or shine.

The 2013 season promises to be the strongest yet for the Riverside Farmers Market, with more than 15 vendors. In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, vendors will provide knife sharpening, honey, baked goods, eco-friendly clothing, as well as live performances by local musicians.

Market visitors can also get free advice from UGA Fulton County Cooperative Extension Agents and Master Gardeners on topics ranging from planting a garden, to radon detection to canning.

Local companies win national award
ATLANTA -- MRemodeling, along with team members MODA Floors & Interiors and Recentered Pieces, recently won a National Contractor of the Year Award (CotY) for Residential Interior Element. The award is sponsored annually by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. An impartial panel of judges from within the industry and associated fields selected winners based on each entrant’s binder, which included “before and after” photography and project descriptions.

Aisles of smiles: Publix worker gathers $550K

ATLANTA – A Cobb County woman is beaming since winning more than a half-million dollars from the Georgia Lottery.

Angelia Salas, 50, of Smyrna won a $550,000 top prize playing the instant game $550,000 Grand Money.

The Publix employee purchased her prize while on her lunch break.

“I scratched it in the store,” Salas recalled. “I said, ‘Oh my gosh! Am I seeing this right? Is this real?’”

Publix Super Market #1249, 5630 Roswell Road NE in Sandy Springs, sold the winning ticket.

Salas handed the ticket to her supervisor, who confirmed her winnings.

“I feel like the whole world has been lifted off of me,” she exclaimed.

With her winnings, Salas intends to pay off her car note as well as her father’s car note. She also plans to pay off her father’s home mortgage.

Winning Powerball ticket worth $1M sold in Atlanta

ATLANTA – A winning Georgia Lottery ticket matched the first five winning numbers from the April 27 Powerball drawing. The winning ticket worth $1 million was sold at Roswell Road Amoco, 5995 Roswell Road in Atlanta.

A winner has not yet come forward to claim the prize. Powerball winners in Georgia have 180 days from the draw date to claim prizes.

Winning numbers from the April 27 Powerball drawing were: 3-23-48-54-55 and the Powerball was 5.

Wednesday’s jackpot is at an estimated $165 million to a single annuity winner. Powerball tickets are $2 per play.

As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Powerball will benefit education in the state of Georgia.

Four Metro Atlanta Caribou Coffee stores closing April 14

ATLANTA -- Coffee retailer Caribou Coffee said Monday they were closing four locations in metro Atlanta on April 14 as part of a larger set of store closings.

The company said it will close 80 locations nationally, and convert another 88 locations to Peet's Coffee locations, including the company's remaining nine stores in metro Atlanta.

The local stores that will be closing will be the locations on North Druid Hills Road, the Norcross store on Peachtree Parkway, and both Marietta locations -- on Powers Ferry Road and on Johnson Ferry Road.

The chain, America's second largest coffee chain behind Starbucks, was acquired in December 2012 by Joh. A. Benckiser, the German company which also recently acquired the West Coast coffee chain Peet's.

MODA Floors & Interiors wins two NARI Awards

MODA Floors & Interiors wins two NARI Awards

ATLANTA -- MODA Floors & Interiors has received two awards from the Atlanta Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. NARI is the only trade association dedicated solely to the remodeling industry. MODA is a flooring and window coverings resource with an 18,000-square-foot showroom in the West Midtown Design District.

The MODA, M Remodeling and Recentered Pieces' team entry won in the Residential Interior Element Category. Judges select COTY Award winners based on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, degree of difficulty and entry presentation.
