Fashion police gone too far? Woman asked to leave court for wearing sandals

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- Have the fashion police gone too far?

April Fleming told 11Alive she was asked to leave court when she showed up in sandals to pay a ticket.

She said she was wearing the white decorative shoes to work, but the deputy told her there are no flip-flops allowed.

"I said sir, these are sandals. Flip flops are what you wear to the beach. I was shocked," she said.

Fleming said plenty of people in the courtroom were wearing sneakers and hooded sweatshirts, and she felt she was professionally dressed.

She was allowed to pay her fine, but never got to speak to the judge.

When 11Alive called the court, they found out her summons never said no sandals, and they apologized to Fleming for the inconvenience.

Sandy Springs is now flip-flopping on its flip-flop policy, and said the shoes will be allowed in court.
