SANDY SPRINGS, GA (WXIA) – GBI investigators are looking into an officer-involved shooting in Sandy Springs Friday afternoon.

It happened at about 4:30 at 330 Winding River Drive during what authorities described as a domestic dispute between a mother and son.

When officers arrived at the apartment in response to a 911 call, the son, 26-year-old Ahbayomi Royalston confronted them in the parking lot with a gun. Officers fired, striking Royalston three times.

The police officers were not hit by gunfire. No other injuries were reported. Authorities said Royalston's injuries are non-life-threatening.

Royalston's brother said the family is understanding. He went on to say that Royalston suffers from mental illness, and that this marked the second time police were called because of his behavior. Authorities said the mother is fine, and that the altercation that led to the 911 call was a loud argument, not a physical altercation.
