Student arrested after bringing air gun to school

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- Sandy Springs police expect to file charges against a student accused of bringing an airsoft gun to school.

Investigators were dispatched to North Springs High School at around 10 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a call from school resource officers, who told police that a student informed his teacher that he'd witnessed a classmate get off the school bus with a gun, according to Lt. Steve Rose with the Sandy Springs Police Department.

The juvenile suspect was eventually spotted leaving the school gym, where he was taken into custody by K-9 and school resource officers. Rose said the arresting officers found the weapon and determined that it was an air gun.

The school was on lockdown until about 10:45 a.m., Rose said.
