Twelve Georgia Chefs Will Compete at the 35th Annual Vidalia Onion Festival

Twelve Georgia chefs will soon reveal new layers of their own talent as well as the versatility of the famous Vidalia® onion. Local chefs included come from restaurants such as Spice Market, the Chicken & The Egg, The Ritz-Carlton, Food 101, Fig Jam Kitchen & Bar, and more.

The inaugural Golden Onion professional cooking competition will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2012, in Vidalia, Ga., as the official kick-off to the 35th Annual Vidalia Onion Festival. This new professional cooking competition showcases the Vidalia® onion, Georgia’s official state vegetable, and also offers a new platform for chefs across Georgia to display their skills and creativity.

This month, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar in Dunwoody is giving guests the opportunity to discover the wines of Spain without leaving the Atlanta area.The restaurant is offering a special five-course tapas dinner featuring Chris Elam from Prestige Wine on Friday, April 27 at 7 pm.

Elam is a Spanish wine expert who has spent the past 15 years exploring vineyards, tasting little-known wines and learning the secretive culture of Spanish winemakers, and he will be teaching guests how to choose, appreciate and pair Spanish wines with food.

The five-course menu for the evening will be prepared by Fleming’s Chef Partner Kenneth Bills and paired with four different Spanish wines for $85 per person. The menu includes the following dishes and wine pairings:

Sterling Hospitality Takes Home Three Awards From The Atlanta Chefs Expo

The team behind Sterling Hospitality, creators of Atlanta concepts Aqua blue Restaurant & Bar, Marlow’s Tavern, Aqua blue Catered Events and Market Street Café, took home three awards at the Atlanta Chefs Expo on Sunday, February 19 at The Foundry at Puritan Mill.  This inaugural culinary event included menu tastings from local chefs, cooking demonstrations and more to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Greater Atlanta. Sterling Hospitality competed in the show along with 57 other chefs and restaurants and received recognition for Fan Favorite (Aqua blue Restaurant & Bar), Best Caterer and Most Creative Caterer (Aqua blue Catered Events).

For April Fool’s Day this year, Double Zero Napoletana and The Iberian Pig are playing a pleasant prank on guests. The Sandy Springs restaurant and the Decatur restaurant, both part of the Castellucci Hospitality Group, are sending all of their employees and some of their kitchens’ greatest hits to the opposite restaurant on Sunday, April 1. As a result, each eatery will offer a special menu consisting of the other restaurants’ most popular dishes and drinks in addition to their regular menus.

The following items from The Iberian Pig’s menu will be served at Double Zero Napoletana on April 1:

·         Bacon wrapped dates stuffed with Manchego cheese and walnuts and served with romesco dipping sauce

Uncle Julio’s Fine Mexican Food has introduced five new tequila-centric cocktails to the restaurant’s drink menu. Two of these new beverages feature a lower calorie content that will help guests get ready for bikini season, while the other three offer new spins on classic favorites.

·         Patron Skinny Margarita ($9.95) – Patron Silver tequila and freshly made skinny agave sour deliver a crisp and light margarita for under 120 calories

·         Julio’s Skinny Guava-Rita ($8.50) – A light, fruity margarita featuring el Jimador 100% agave tequila, guava nectar and Uncle Julio’s own skinny agave sour for under 130 calories

Beginning Tuesday, March 13, Aqua blue is adding a special selection of “crab-tastic” cuisine to the Roswell restaurant’s menu. Executive Chef John C. Metz is bringing back the limited-time Crabfest menu, which features a variety of appetizers and entrees inspired by stone crab season.
