Photo Gallery | New school year begins at Holy Innocents'

Holy Innocents' Episcopal School (HIES) opened its doors to some 1,360 students on Tuesday, Aug. 12, for the 2014-2015 school year. New students were welcomed, friendships were renewed, and members of the Class of 2015 were celebrated.

Holy Innocents' has record enrollment for the Upper School this year—508 students. A new head of school, Paul Barton, arrived in July, and the school is building a state-of-the-art Math Science and Commons Building scheduled to open next fall. The campus community also recently reached its One School Campaign goal of $22.5-million to fund the new building, among other projects. (The building was designed by Atlanta’s Collins Cooper Carusi Architects, Inc. and is being constructed  by Hodges & Hicks General Contractors, LLC.)

The Golden Bears have begun fall varsity programs, after dominating last year in Class A and being moved up to Class AA this fall. Volleyball, softball, and cross-country teams began practice Aug. 1, and on the gridiron, the Bears are getting ready for a scrimmage this Friday, Aug. 15, at Mt. Pisgah and the season opener Aug. 23 at Cambridge High.

Holy Innocents', founded in 1959, educates students 3 years old through graduation. The school is located at 805 Mt. Vernon Highway NW, Atlanta.
